![]() Robert showed she had style, she had flair. So the flashy girl from Flushing was right. When two of the mango desserts arrived, I presumed I was too late, but then the server came back with a color-coordinated bowl of raspberry and lemon sorbets that was quite refreshing. In the middle of my entree, l asked the server if I could switch my dessert to the sorbet. But I noticed the fashion-forward Japanese women at the next table ordered the House Made Sorbets as they were Instagramming every morsel of their meal. When it came to dessert, we were both drawn to the Mango Coconut Mousse with kiwi jelly and a base of dried meringue. It was served with baby veggies, fingerling potatoes, and herbed chicken au jus. ![]() I went for the Organic Amish Chicken, a roasted half-chicken split in quarters and kept quite succulent. Quite a slab and nicely tender with the cauliflower adding a surprising crunch. My husband decided on the Scottish Salmon served with artichoke leaves, cauliflower a la grecque, and radish fennel salad. Either the entrees were quite generous or the alcohol was making everything look bigger. Meanwhile, the soft bread rolls kept coming warm and addictive as they were. I went for the fresh Tuna Tatare, chopped, mixed with jalapeños, and slathered with avocado sitting atop cucumber slices. For our openers, my husband ordered the Gazpacho, ice-cold richness topped with a corn zucchini relish. When we started seeing ghostly apparitions of Trump through the window, we realized it was time to eat. I had the comparatively tamer $18 Wolf's Negroni which had a decided Latin accent with mezcal, Campari, sweet vermouth, and an orange peel. It was a potent mix of Woodford Reserve bourbon, orange bitters, vermouth, and Amarena cherries. I told him "Go brown or go home!" | didn't know what I meant. My husband ordered the $18 Mad Manhattan even though he never had one before. They offered a $44 lunch prix fixe, but before we considered our choices, we felt a need for cocktails. We saw not only Columbus Circle, the former Time Warner (now Deutsche Bank) building, and several blocks of Columbus Avenue but also the Trump International tower. But hell, my husband and I didn't care because there was enough room for the two of us.īesides, we still had the same panoramic view that the more obviously anal pre-planners had at the nicer tables. When we arrived, I timidly asked if one was available, and the hostess led us to the last one facing the window, a mini-table abutted against the wall. Even though I made a reservation just the day before, I had the unmitigated gall of requesting a window table facing the circle. It's on the ninth floor of 2 Columbus Circle on top of the multi-level Museum of Art & Design appropriately initialized as MAD. I believe I've only seen her eat rugelach on her show, but she did a good job convincing me that Robert would be worth checking out. ![]() Yes, the lady in red when everybody else is wearing tan. not a renowned chef or an acknowledged foodie. I was web surfing when I came upon dining recommendations from. My husband and I had tickets to see the jacked-up version of "The Music Man" starring Hugh Jackman, so we felt a need to eat something a cut above Papaya Dog before the show.
